Eavesdropping: the Frustrated Narrative.
Microbilia - a collection of minute, insignificant yet unique incidents. The idea was that the small moments would not be imbued with a false sense of significant. A failed project in the sense that small print manipulates the reader, concise writing if poetic, archival paper lasts near 300 years.
Foreword by Dr Virginia Nightingale. Materials: archival paper and hard covers. |
More Microbilia - a collection of minute, insignificant yet unique incidents, following on from Microbilia.
Materials: Hard cover, cloth spine, paper, stab binding. |
The Book of Dark Pages by Nora Fleming -engages in an ironic and mischievous way with a pompous passage of aesthetic ideas between the generations.Text contemplates Line as a formal drawing element yet gives the reader faux insights. The relationship between text and images is random while sounding aphoristic. The form of the book is based on a 19th century reader or instructive picture book. Nora Flemin represents the editor or observer who "sits on the shoulder" of the artist at all times.
Foreword by Dr Richard Read Materials: archival paper and archival covers. |
Out Damn Spot! A flip book or thumb cinema, that animates a black spot.
Materials: readymade notebook with cloth cover, hand inked spots. |
The Elevator Rider's Companion - a pocket size book in which all the elements - colour, materials and construction that support the contents are alluded to in a short poem - a riddle. All the aspects of the book point to the idea of fear. (The name of th poet Noel Farina, is a "spellcheck" version of Nola Farman).
Materials: archival paper, covers, snake or shark skin spine, stab binding. |
Readymade Performance - a book comprised of snap shots arranged in a concertina format. The photos are of chance encounters with the occupants of a bench in a square in Marais precinct of Paris. The only text is the title and a found text on a restaurant facade "Les fous en face".
Materials: Hard cover with cloth spine. |
Flutter - a flip book or thumb cinema that animates the word "flutter".
Materials: readymade notebook with cloth cover, ink stamp. |
Six Hours in the Life of a Paris Bench - is comprised of snapshots of chance encounters with the occupants of bench in a square in the Marais precinct in Paris. One photo was taken every 10 minutes. The only text is the title.

The Appearance - a book with minimal text. It has been conceptualised and structured in such a way that it is necessary for the reader to engage with it in its codex form to understand its meaning.
Materials: archival paper, cloth covers over card, stab binding. |
Parking Places I Could Have Had If I Had Needed a Parking Place in Paris - The images are self-explanatory. The only text is the title.
Materials: Hard cover with cloth spine, acetate inserts, stab binding. |
Silent Reading - a "blank" book (or is it?) based on John Cage's 4'33" of silence.
